So many experts do this so I thought, hey why not. After all, I spend a good chunk of my time writing about laptops and computers, so maybe I can take a stab at a few things we can expect from laptops in 2018. So, without further delay, here are my laptop predictions for 2018. Will they come true? Who knows, but it sure is fun to dream.
Intel Eighth Generation Will Dominate
Intel has long dominated the world of PC processors, and 2018 looks to be much of the same. The eighth generation chips are now out in the wild, and we will slowly see more and more laptops shipping with these new chips. One interesting fact about this is the partnership with AMD. These chips will have much better graphics than other laptops with onboard graphics thanks to this unprecedented partnership. While this will benefit AMD as well, as they undoubtedly will get a chunk of the profits, you can also expect this to hurt their processor market as well, even as they work to improve their processors and become even more competitive. At the end of the day, you get the best of both worlds with these processors, so why not stick with Intel?
2-in-1 Device Sales Will Grow
Now this is the big one. The 2-in-1 laptop has almost single handedly destroyed the traditional tablet, as it provides a unified experience that really gives you the best of both worlds in a device. You can fold it up and use it as a tablet, or you can open it up and use it as a laptop. I know how great these devices are, as I’m using one right now to type this article. I love my HP Spectre. These devices continue to show steady growth and aren’t showing any signs of slowing down. I believe that over the coming months we will see more and more of these devices hit the market. The category leaders such as HP and Dell have already refreshed these designs, but I believe that more manufactures will jump into the 2-in-1 game over the coming months.
More Luxury Features
One of the more interesting things that are starting to make their way to laptops are many features that you see on premium cell phones today. Things like fingerprint scanners, facial recognition, and more. Trackpads are even coming with enhanced features on many popular premium laptops. These features do almost as much to enhance your laptop experience as they do your smartphones. In 2018, I believe you can expect to see even more of these features make it onto laptops, especially in the higher end market. Laptop makers are looking for ways to tempt you into spending a little more on your laptop, and these features are just the way to do it.
There you have it. These are some of my biggest laptop predictions for 2018. Do you think I’m correct or full of it? Tell me your thoughts and opinions in the comments below, and here’s to a great 2018 for laptops.
