The MSI GE70 Apache Pro-012 is a bestselling 2014 17.3-inch laptop that received positive reviews for its appealing design, high resolution matte screen, high performance hardware including an Intel Core i7-4700HQ processor, NVIDIA Geforce GTX860M graphics card and 12GB RAM, and an accurate SteelSeries gaming keyboard with customizable backlit LED lighting. However, it has a short battery life and tends to get warm after long hours of gaming although these are minor issues affecting almost all big screen gaming laptops. All in all MSI GE70 Apache Pro-012 is a powerful gaming unit capable of handling almost any task gaming or otherwise without the outlandish price tag.

The MSI GE70 Apache Pro is a well-priced 17-inch gaming laptop with a comfortable design and powerful hardware features to compete against many of it smore pricier rivals. It packs just the right features to satisfy an average gamer who values internal specs more than outward appearances.

Weighing in at just 6 pounds, this beast is certainly more mobile than the ASUS G750 series giants, and while it’s not slim and trim like the premium Razor Blade laptops, it comfortably fits in any backpack without breaking your back. The SteelSeries keyboard with its customizable backlit and gaming optimized keys is definitely a stand-out feature along with its 17.3-inch, Full-HD anti-glare screen, with has wide viewing angles and a decent brightness and accurate color reproduction.

Clocking in at 3.2GHz, the Intel Core i7-4700HQ processor along with 12GB of RAM allows this laptop to sail through most heavy applications. The GTX 860M graphics card is not as powerful as the old 780M on the Alienware 17, but it outperforms rivals equipped with cards like the 770M or 840M.

The bottom line is the GE70 Apache Pro can confidently run all high-end games on medium to high settings at Full-HD resolution. Its only weak point is the low battery life, and if endurance is of paramount concern, you should look for it in the premium gaming segment.

Critic Reviews

  • NotebookCheck May 20, 2014

Although the GE70 does not sport the strongest gaming graphics card, the 17-inch device supplies more than attractive performance. Unlike other laptop experts, MSI uses a GDDR5 rather than a DDR3 VRAM for the GTX 850M model. Our report shows just how big the performance difference is in practical use.
