The Lenovo Y50 4k 59425943 is a bestselling 2014 15.6-inch gaming laptop that received positive reviews for a top notch design, an Ultra-HD display, decent speakers, and a good balance of gaming performance, size and price. It does however lose some points due to its mid-level graphics card, limited upgrade options, small SSD storage and a shorter battery life compared to some competitors. Overall the Y50 4K offers more than the many machines found at this price range, and it has well-balanced configuration for gamers looking to run most games at medium to high settings, if not the highest.

The Y50 4K is Lenovo’s latest 15.6-inch gaming laptop following the path of the popular Y510 series laptops designed to give gamers a good balance of size, performance and price. With the Y50, Lenovo has dropped the signature ultrabay slot that previously allowed the Y510 to add optical drives, a cooling fan or an extra graphics card.

While the expandability is now more restricted, the new design is less blocky, slimmer, and the brushed aluminum design combined with a solid backlit AccuType island-style keyboard makes it look and feel more expensive and durable than other similarly priced plastic gaming laptops. Right above the keyboard there are two blazing red JBL stereo speakers which make a great sound system for watching movies or gaming.

The graphics card on this configuration is the GTX 860M, which packs enough horsepower to run any modern game at medium to high settings. Since this is not the most powerful GPU, consistent performance at ultra high settings cannot be guaranteed for more demanding games.

With an Intel Core i7-4700HQ processor and 16GB of RAM, it has no problems with multitasking or running heavy applications. All said the Y50 is a great value for its build quality, and a worthy choice if you want to play the latest games without having to break the bank.

Overall, it is a pity that Lenovo - since it already offers different display versions - does not have an optional, high-end panel solution in order to keep its competitors under control. With the current components many potential customers will probably wave it aside.
