The Lenovo ThinkPad 11E is a bestselling 11.6-inch laptop that has been praised for its budget friendly price, its solid state drive and for its sturdy Lenovo build quality. With its small 11.6-inch display and 5-6 hours of battery life, the ThinkPad 11E is a great companion for travellers on a tight budget. The Intel Quad Core Celeron processor and 4GB of DDR3 RAM won’t be winning any races, but they will cope with everyday tasks with ease. While many of its competitors offer slow 5400rpm mechanical hard drives or smaller 32GB or 64GB eMMC flash memory storage drives, the 11E boasts a 128GB SSD. The solid state drive offers lightning fast Windows boot and app loading times, but it does offer limited storage space for users who would like to store media.

Lenovo is known for their almost bulletproof business laptops and their range of affordable entry level laptops. The ThinkPad 11E is an all-black plastic laptop that offers great durability and great value for money. Powered by an Intel Quad Core Celeron N2940 processor and 4GB of RAM, the ThinkPad 11E offers enough power for everyday tasks.

While it will not win any awards and was not designed to be the most powerful laptop on the market, it will run apps such as Photoshop with a tiny bit of lag. But users who are looking for a laptop for multimedia work will have to look at spending a bit more for a smooth experience. While it does come preinstalled with Windows 10, users can install Linux on it and certain builds such as the Tumbleweed build will install without any tweaking or proprietary drivers.

While many laptops in the same price range feature smaller eMMC storage devices or 5400rpm mechanical hard drives, the 11E is equipped with a 128GB solid state drive. While it does offer lightning fast boot and app loading times, it is a bit limited on storage space. Users who require more storage space will have to consider replacing the 2.5-inch drive with larger drive or make use of external or cloud based storage options. The volume rocker and power button are weirdly located on the side of the laptop and will take a bit of getting used to.

Pros

  • SSD
  • Ultraportable
  • Price
  • Easy Linux installation

Cons

  • Weird power button location
  • Limited ports

  • Lenovo bloatware

Bottom Line

The Lenovo ThinkPad 11E is a great ultraportable laptop that offers good bang for your buck. At under $300 and with hassle-free Linux installation the 11E is a winner for users on a budget or for Linux enthusiasts.

The education-aimed Yoga 11e Chromebook bends into several useful hybrid shapes, but it's also too thick and rugged for commuters who want lightweight hardware for their lightweight operating system.
