The HP Stream 13.3 is a bestselling 2015 13.3-inch laptop that received positive reviews for its sturdy build, attractive color, acceptable day-to-day performance, long battery life and comfortable keyboard. On the downside, its screen has slightly high contrast, its trackpad gets unresponsive at times and it has no DVD drive. Despite its limitations, the Stream 13.3 is a capable and affordable Windows 8 netbook that is designed to compete with leading Chromebooks in the budget ultra-portable market.

With only 2GB of DDR3L SDRAM as well as a 2.16Ghz Intel Celeron processor under the hood, one would be excused for assuming that this machine is sluggish and underpowered. Somehow HP have taken what at first glance seems to be a very primitive machine and turned it into a stylish modern tool for work or study. This is mainly due to the blazing fast read/write speeds of the built-in 32GB eMMC solid-state drive.

Granted, with only a 32GB EmmC SSD, you’ll definitely be needing additional storage, although luckily HP have included a USB 3.0 port as well as two USB 2.0 ports to comfortably handle external storage devices. The HP TrueVision high-definition webcam is crystal clear and the DTS+ audio make Skype calls a pleasure. The almost eight hour battery life is a welcome addition and reinforces the feeling of an ultra-portable lightweight device.

Unfortunately, the screen does have a very narrow viewing angle but at this price range its to be expected. All in all, this is a fantastic value for money office or student machine for users for whom portability and use on-the-go is a must.

If you are constantly on the move and need a cheap laptop to do your daily document editing and web browsing at school or the office, take a look at the HP Stream 7. Chromebooks are in high demand amongst mobile users because they’re so cheap, well built, and they have excellent battery lives. HP Stream features the same characteristics except it runs Windows 8.1.

Its Chassis is sturdy, lightweight, and stays cool thanks to a fanless design. Its 13.3 inch screen is bigger than that of many similarly priced Windows netbooks, and it is sufficiently bright with adequate viewing angles. The keyboard is large with well-spaced tactile keys and its comfort level is almost comparable to a Mac keyboard. Its battery life of over 7 hours is more than what most competing Windows 8 laptops offer.

Like most Chromebooks, it comes with limited storage and low power hardware that is just enough to handle basic tasks. The 2.16 Ghz Intel Celeron Processor along with 2GB RAM easily handles tasks like editing Word files, watching YouTube and browsing the web. The inbuilt 32GB storage is enough for storing small files such as documents.

However, if you are a media user, you should install a 64GB microSD card and also purchase an external HDD for storing large video files. All in all, if you need a durable ultraportable laptop for cheap and prefer Windows over the limitations of Chrome OS , the HP Stream 13 offers better performance than expected for its price.

The HP Stream 13 is a very inexpensive full Windows 8.1 ultraportable laptop, but its long battery life, looks, and speed resemble that of a much pricier system.

If users do not find the color of the Stream 13 appealing, they will at least find the inner values attractive. Its silent operation, long battery life, and low price make HP's laptop interesting. A one-year license for MS Office 365 Personal is also included.
