The HP pavilion 17 1BQ14UA 17.3-inch has received positive reviews for its large 17.3-inch display, its decent Intel Dual-Core i5-7200U processor and its large amount of storage space. Users were, however, critical of its speaker placement (underneath the unit), finding that the audio quality was dull. Furthermore, one user noted that there was no LED light indicating whether or not the Numpad is active or not, and there is no light to show that the power is on. Lastly, while there is a large amount of storage, it is a slower 5400RPM drive. The HP pavilion 17 1BQ14UA 17.3-inch drives a rather solid performance thanks to its good CPU and ample RAM, and the Intel HD Graphics 620 should handle quite a few games on lower specs.

The HP pavilion 17 1BQ14UA 17.3-inch sports a large 17.3-inch display that seems to be what has drawn most to this laptop. The large Brightview glossy display is said to be good overall, and it is 1600 X 900, which unfortunately means it is not Full-HD as with most modern (pricier) laptops.

It comes with a dual-core Intel i5-7200U, which is a good CPU, and 8GB of DDR4 RAM. This paves the way for a comfortable user experience, but the slower 5400RPM hard drive means slower load times on programs and boot times will be longer than laptops that come with an SSD. Storage space won’t be much of an issue however, since the HDD has 1TB of space. The Intel HD Graphics 620 handles some newer games fairly well on lower settings, such as GTA 5 and Overwatch (check this video out).

The HP pavilion 17 1BQ14UA 17.3-inch has not received much criticism about its touchpad or keyboard, but one user did point out that the there is no light indicating when the Numpad is on, and their is no light indicating that the laptop is on, which one usually finds on the actual power button. The battery life of around 5 hours is average, so you will need to be near an outlet if you plan on using your laptop away from home. The speakers are also positioned at the bottom of the laptop, which is said to dull down the overall audio quality.

Pros

  • Fast processor
  • Plenty of storage space
  • Large display
  • Decent amount of RAM

Cons

  • Dull audio
  • No numpad or power LED light
  • Slower 5400rpm hard drive

Bottom Line

The large display and fast processor are strong points of the HP pavilion 17 1BQ14UA 17.3-inch, making this laptop a decent choice for gamers on a lower budget prepared to play games on lower settings.
