Pros

  • Skylake processor
  • Blu-Ray burner
  • USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 3)

Cons

  • 5400rpm hard drive
  • Battery life
  • Fan noise under load

Bottom Line

A powerful gaming laptop that will run most new game titles on medium to high settings, but the battery life is half of what has been advertised and will mean plugging it in most of the time.

The Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-792G-75RU is a 2015 bestselling 17.3-inch that received positive reviews for its super-fast processor, generous amount of RAM, ample storage and a decent NVIDIA graphics chip. Being an improvement of the V17 Nitro Black Edition, it features 16GB of DDR4 RAM, a Blu-Ray burner and USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 3). Users have complained about the fan noise levels while gaming and the less than advertised battery life. The hard drive offers ample space, but the slower 5400rpm drive of brings down the overall performance of the laptop.

The Acer Aspire V Nitro Black Edition VN7-791G is, according to Acer's own blurb, the apex of the Aspire V Nitro line. What that means in reality is it’s a premium, large but slim, 17in laptop that can serve both as a modest gaming machine and a workstation, much like Apple’s 17in MacBook Pro line used to be.
