HP Omen Pro If you have been tempted by HP’s Omen Gaming Laptop, but want something with even more power, HP has announced something even more beastly – the HP Omen Pro.  The original HP Omen laptop provided gamers with a thinly designed laptop that is sleek and stylish, cased in aluminum and powerful enough to satisfy the needs of most hardcore gamers.  Now, with the Open Pro, HP is taking it to a whole new level with a machine that has been designed not just for players, but for game designers as well.

The HP Omen Pro is actually classified as a mobile workstation, which perhaps makes it more suitable for game designers or multimedia editors than actual gamers.  However, it packs enough power under the hood to get some solid gaming done too and could be the ultimate laptop for users that need a machine to handle both intense work and hardcore gaming sessions at the same time.

Design

Like the Omen gaming laptop, the Omen Pro is built into the same unibody aluminum frame that is only 0.78-inches thick and weighs in at only 4.68 pounds.  The design is sleek, stylish and creates a truly unique experience when you sit down for either an intense work session or game excursion with your friends.  The backlit keyboard offers perfect lighting for gaming and work in all forms of lighting and with a 15.6-inch touchscreen running a Full-HD resolution of 1080p, all your graphics will appear bright, clear and crisp.

Operating System

In a curious move by HP, it decided to include Windows 7 instead of the more touchscreen oriented Windows 8.1 despite including an HD touchscreen in all the models of the Omen Pro.  This could be a clue as to who they expect to use this machine as many designers and game creators will find a system based on Windows 7 much easier to use for work even if they lose some touchscreen functionality found in Windows 8.  Still, Windows 7 is the preferred operating system of choice for most gamers and with the expected update to Windows 10 on the horizon, soon all of the Omen Pro machines will be running the latest and greatest operating system from Microsoft.

Under the Hood

So we know the outside looks simply fantastic, but what about the hardware?  Don’t they say it isn’t what is outside, but inside that counts?

The HP Omen Pro is powered by an Intel Core i7-4720HQ that runs at 2.6 GHz and will increase up to 3.6 GHz with the Intel Turbo Boost Technology.  The 4 cores of processing power will be more than enough to handle even the most complex of programming or gaming tasks with relative ease.  It includes 8 GB to 16 GB of DDR3-1600 SDRAM that will allow you to load almost anything into memory for even faster processing.

Storage wise, the Omen Pro has obviously been designed with speed in mind.  It includes either a 256 GB or 512 GB HP Z SSD for quick opening, closing and loading times for everything that you do.  Unfortunately, if you want to be able to store tons of files, you will need to add an external hard drive to the mix.  Luckily, the Omen Pro includes a wide range of ports to connect almost anything you can think of including 4 USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI output, a miniDisplay port and a headphone jack.

There are two graphics processors included with this laptop.  The first comes as part of the Intel chipset.  The Intel Graphics 4600 are perfect for lower graphic requirement apps allowing your machine to run much quieter and use less power.  But, when you need access to the best graphics, the Omen Pro includes an NVIDIA Quadro K110M card with 2 GB of dedicated graphics memory.  The NVIDIA Quadro K110M is the perfect video card for 3D modeling giving you some of the best refresh and response times in the business.  While it will work for gaming, it truly shines during the 3D creation process and not rendering games while playing.  That being said, most gamers will find that it provides enough power for seamless gaming at high resolutions and frame rates although if gaming is your main concern, you may prefer the original Omen over the Omen Pro.

Available Models

There are two main HP Omen Pro Models that you can choose from.  Essentially, they are the same model but with increased RAM and a larger SSD.

Who’s It For?

So you think this laptop sounds pretty great but you are wondering if it will fulfill your needs.  First, if your computer needs are basic and consist of activities such as social media browsing, web surfing and document editing, this isn’t the laptop for you.  Quite simply, this laptop is way more than you will ever need, so why invest in something that you simply won’t use.  On the other hand, if you are a gamer and would prefer to squeeze the highest framerates possible without focusing on the latest and greatest in design and technology, consider using our weekly updated gaming laptops guides to help choose the best laptop for you.

So who should consider buying this laptop?  To put it simply, high end users that require a lot of power to get their work done are the best candidates for this laptop.  This can include graphic designers, video editors and even software programmers and game creators.  Gamers will also find this laptop a great choice for their gaming needs even though the graphics card is designed more for work than for play.

HP has taken great care in designing a laptop that is both thin and easy to transport as well as a machine that is packed with only the best hardware designed for users who really need power to get their work done.  The HP Omen Pro is a worthy successor to the original Omen and should satisfy the needs of both the high end professional and gamer alike.  It’s sleek, thin body combined with its aluminum frame will impress both your friends and your coworkers and its speed will save you from long load times even if you are opening the heaviest of applications.

For users who are looking for only the best, the HP Omen Pro is most definitely a laptop to consider.  It gives you the power you need for high end applications and games alike, and is designed to look and feel good while it does.
