Best Cheap Gaming Laptops –  Our Top Picks

If you are new to computing we suggest reading our beginners laptop buying guide for a low down on some questions you should be asking yourself before you make your final decision.

Please Note: If you plan on playing newer games we’d strongly recommend investing something with better graphics performance in the sub-$600 range or higher as graphics performance in this price range will usually offer much better value for money.

Best Cheap Gaming Laptop Under $500

Although not as powerful as gaming laptops with a dedicated graphics card, sub-$500 gaming laptops feature top of the range integrated graphics which will allow for playable framerates on many older games.

1. Lenovo IdeaPad 3 81W0003QUS 14-inch

The Lenovo Ideapad 3 81W0003QUS sports AMD’s Ryzen 5 3500U CPU and is currently our number one pick for best gaming laptop under $500. The top feature of the Ryzen 5 3500U is it’s integrated Radeon RX Vega 8 graphics which offers excellent performance compared to competing Intel integrated graphics – in most cases as much as double the performance and frames per second when rendering games.

This is a breathe of fresh air in a market dominated by lacklustre integrated graphics performance. Expect to play games such as the Elder Scrolls Skyrim on high graphics settings at 1366 x768 resolution – no small feat for such a portable laptop.

The Ideapad 3 isn’t just sporting a powerful CPU and solid entry level graphics though. It also weighs only 3.3 lbs and has a professional design finish that will work well at work or school. This means not only will it get your gaming done, but it ticks all the right boxes to be your all-in-one mobile workstation too.

On the downside, some reviewers were critical of its flimsy touchpad. If you are a serious gamer you will probably want to be using a mouse most of the time anyways, but it could still be annoying in some situations. Another thing worth noting is slightly smaller 14-inch display which also was reported as having relatively poor viewing angles which may not be suited for outdoor use or environments with a lot of glare.

All in all, despite a few minor shortcomings, its seriously hard to argue with the Ideapad 3’s powerful hardware and Lenovo’s reliable track record of high quality builds, making this Idea Pad 3 our definitive top pick for the best cheap gaming laptop under $500 of the moment.

Pros

  • Powerful value for money AMD hardware
  • Radeon RX Vega 8 graphics
  • Professional design
  • Lightweight and portable

Cons

  • Flimsy touchpad
  • Poor viewing angles

Specs

  • AMD Ryzen 5 3500U 2.1 GHz
  • AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 [View Framerates]
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • 14 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 3.3 lbs

Summary

The Lenovo Ideapad 3 81W0003QUS provides very powerful hardware for the price and only a few compromises, making it an affordable all-round laptop capable of light gaming and handling day to day tasks with ease.

Best Cheap Gaming Laptop Under $600

Although  priced higher than the $500 range, the sub $600 range often offers substantial gains in gaming performance.

2. Acer Aspire 5 A515-44G-R83X 15.6-inch

With the limited options available in the gaming market today for gaming laptops under $600 with dedicated graphics cards (let alone gaming laptops for under $500), the A515-44G-R83X provides a very rare offering with its dedicated AMD Radeon RX 640 graphics card combined with a hex-core AMD Ryzen 5 4500U CPU.

The result is a cheap gaming laptop for under $600 that’s capable of running modern games comfortably on low settings and will rip through most older crowd favorites with ease. Not all of us can afford the luxury of forking out for a next level dedicated graphics card with our laptop.

Luckily, Acer have clearly spotted a sweet spot in the market for those budget gamers who want something a little more than integrated graphics, but don’t have the extra cash to fork out for the latest and greated NVIDIA graphics.

Other benefits include a high quality IPS display and extremely snappy day to day performance thanks to its fast hex-core CPU. Upgrading RAM is highly recommended as the Ryzen 5 4500U is one hell of a CPU and will be able to multitask like a dream with some extra RAM installed.  As per usual, AMD hardware clearly undercuts Intel when it comes to raw bang for your buck compared to competing Intel CPU’s at its price.

Some minor drawbacks include a flimsy touchpad and slightly less than advertised battery life, with some users reporting an average battery life of around 5 hours with battery saving mode in use. Expect this to be a lot less while gaming.

Overall the A515-44G-R83X provides a much needed piece of the puzzle in Acers popular Aspire 5 lineup and provides some of the best price to performance available in the budget gaming laptop space today making it a clear winner in the sub-$600 gaming segment.

Pros

  • Affordable dedicated graphics card
  • Fast hex core processor
  • High quality IPS display
  • Lightweight build

Cons

  • Flimsy touchpad
  • Battery life less than advertised

Specs

  • 15.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels (IPS)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 7.5 hours battery life
  • 4.2 lbs

Summary

If you are looking for the most bang for your buck when it comes to gaming, the A515-44G-R83X provides a very affordable Radeon graphics card with some excellent other perks to boot, including a high quality IPS display and blazing fast hex core CPU.

3. Acer Aspire 5 Slim A515-43-R19L 15.6 inch

The Acer Aspire 5 Slim A515-43-R19L is a bestselling budget laptop with a Full-HD high quality IPS display and high quality audio engine as well as AMD Vega 3 Mobile Graphics.

Unfortunately, it’s integrated AMD graphics card won’t be able to handle newer games that are more demanding. That said, many top tier titles from 2017 or earlier will be able to run fine at acceptable framerates medium settings at 1366×768 resolution. These include popular games such as Dota 2, League of Legends and CS:GO. For more playable titles be sure to check framerates at the link below.

If you are happy playing older titles, then this Acer Aspire 5 Slim model has the best looking screen you can get for the price. To boot it features a low key premium lightweight design including a backlit keyboard.

On the down side, some reviewers were critical of a below average touchpad (no problem for gaming on a mouse) and slightly shorter than advertised battery life.

Overall, if screen quality is top of your gaming requirements and you’d like to enjoy older games, the A515-43-R19L will get the job done. Otherwise you may be better off looking at some more pricey alternatives for gaming.

  • Lightweight design with aluminium top cover
  • Backlit keyboard

Cons

  • Graphics only suitable for older games
  • Flimsy touchpad
  • Limited storage space out the box

4. Lenovo Flex 5 81X20005US 14-Inch

Though perhaps not the traditional style for a gaming laptop, the Lenovo Flex 5 81X20005US is a bestselling 2-in-1 convertible laptop that offers a great convertible experience and some surprisingly powerful hardware at an attractive price.

The laptop is powered by a 4th generation AMD Ryzen 5 4500U, a powerful CPU even by desktop standards. This comes bundled with integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 6 graphics, which offers up to three times better performance than the Radeon RX Vega 3 graphics found on competitors.

Considering it’s price is not too much higher, if you are interested in playing some more recent games from 2018 / 2019 on playable settings, the RX Vega 6 is one of the fastest integrated graphics on the market.

Other benefits of the Lenovo Flex 5 include it’s 2-in-1 tablet functionality, lengthy battery life, satisfying build quality and stylish design.

If you plan on moving around a lot, the the Flex 5 will provide a mobile and flexible gaming and work station on the go.

5. ASUS VivoBook 15 F512DA-EB51 15.6-Inch

The ASUS VivoBook 15 F512DA-EB51 is another bestselling new release that offers one thing above all else – some of the best AMD hardware ever released at its price, including the very powerful AMD Vega 8 integrated graphics which is one of the most powerful integrated graphics systems on the market.

The catch, however, comes in the form of possible performance issues related to hardware overheating. That said, we strongly recommend investing in a laptop cooling pad if you decide to go with this laptop as without it, you may find your hardware is throttled.

The tradeoff for potential heat related issues is clearly in the VivoBook’s extremely stylish design, which includes razer thin bezels and good build quality along with a strong portability factor, weighing in at only 3.5 pounds.

While it’s impossible to imagine a manufacturer like ASUS throwing in such amazing hardware at this price without cutting a few corners, the raw power of this machine cannot be understated especially when compared to most competing laptop at its price.

Full specs include a 258 GB SSD harddrive, AMD Quad Core r5-3500u CPU, AMD Radeon Vega 8 Graphics and 8GB of DDR4 RAM. One important consideration worth noting is that this VivoBook has only one available RAM slot, which may make upgrading your RAM slightly more costly than other models.

Overall if raw performance is what you are after and you also plan on using your laptop on the go with a catchy design to show off around town, the ASUS VivoBook 15 F512DA-EB51 really takes the cake, though be sure to take into account the potential pitfalls of overheating.

Pros

  • Powerful value for money hardware
  • Radeon Vega 8 graphics
  • Good build quality
  • Stylish design with thin bezels
  • Extremely portable

Cons

  • Reports of performance degradation due to overheating
  • Noisy fans under load
  • No empty RAM slots for upgrades

Specs

  • 15.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels (IPS)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 3.5 lbs

Summary

If you are looking for the most powerful hardware for your money and are willing to invest in a laptop cooling pad to keep this laptop cool its the hardware is extremely powerful and is a step ahead of the competition and an extremely stylish package to boot.

 Top Gaming Laptops Under $750 – Runner-Ups

6. Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54-54W2 15.6-Inch (Refurbished)

The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54-54W2 15.6-Inch is a a slightly older option compared to the Nitro 5 above and is more expensive, but even then still clinches our top under $750 slot. Though a moderately more expensive, this is another budget gaming laptop that comes with one huge advantage over cheaper alternatives with integrated graphics – a dedicated GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card with 4GB of dedicated GDDR5-VRA.

To highlight the huge difference in performance, the GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card has framefrates that are up to five times better than AMD Vega 3 integrated graphics. It also includes a snappy 9th generation Intel quad core i5 CPU and a 256GB SSD.

The above said, if you plan on playing any graphic intensive games there is a big case to be made for splurging a little bit extra for a laptop that will be able to play modern games for many years to come.

This hardware, however, comes with a price – mediocre battery life, a relatively dim display and a relatively bulky build are the sacrifices you’ll need to make for this raw graphics performance.

In short, powerful hardware doesn’t come cheap, and compromised battery life and less portability may not be worth it if you primarily use your laptop for work as well as gaming.

That said, if you are a serious gamer and are willing to make a couple compromises, the AN515-54-54W2 has the fastest gaming hardware you’ll be able to find anywhere at its price.

NOTE: If you are worried about buying a refurbished unit, you can also get a very similar brand new AMD based model the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-42-R5ED for only $50 more which includes an AMD Radeon RX 560X graphics card with only 10-20% worse performance than the GeForce GTX 1050.

Pros

  • Extremely good value for money hardware
  • Cheapest GeForce GTX 1050 laptop on the market

Cons

  • Refurbished
  • Dim display
  • Medicore battery life

Specs

  • Intel Core i5-9300H 2.4Ghz
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 4GB GDDR [View Framerates]
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • 15.6 inch, pixels (IPS)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 2 hours battery life
  • 5.5 lbs

Summary

If you are on the hunt for the most powerful hardware for the price and don’t mind a few minor trade offs the AN515-54-54W2 is the best hardware you can get for the price in a gaming laptop.

7. MSI GL62M 7RD-1407 15.6-inch

MSI GL62M 7RD-1407 15.6-inch laptop
MSI has dropped a bomb with its GL62M 7RD-1407 entry-level gaming machine. Priced at under $600 for some time, it’s one of the cheapest deals we have seen for a laptop coming with an Nvidia GTX 10 Series card that offers signicantly better performance compared to integrated graphics or the MX150 equipped laptops.

While its cheap case is somewhat disappointing, it does hide some pretty imposing components under the hood. It features a Full-HD eDP display with 94% NTSC color and the familiar Steel Series Keyboard that we usually see with MSI laptops. However, the keyboard is said to suffer from flex, which is said to be due to the cheap plastic casing, and it doesn’t have backlighting. On the inside, you will find a variety of components that will surprise you, considering its low price tag.

We were thoroughly surprised to see the inclusion of the Nvidia GTX 1050 card for a laptop priced just above $500. While it is an entry-level card, it can run current games on lower settings. The GPU is helped along by an equally impressive Intel i5-7300HQ and 8GB of RAM. The laptop is not only a solid choice for gamers, but for users looking to do video and photo editing, and development work, along with other tasks that demand a lot of the systems internal resources.

The 256GB M.2 SSD is slightly small, and it is bound to fill up soon if you have large game library, but it is blazing fast, meaning your load and boot up times will be quick. The battery life is disappointing, however, running out of juice after about 3 hours of heavy use. You will need to remain plugged in most of the time, but this shouldn’t come at much of a surprise considering its energy-sapping components.

Pros

  • Best Nvidia GTX 1050 deal to date
  • Great CPU for price
  • Fast SSD
  • Runs cool

Cons

  • Feels cheap
  • Keyboard flex
  • Poor battery life

Specs

  • 15.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 6.5 hours battery life
  • 5.29 lbs

Summary

The MSI GL62M 7RD-1407 is by far the best deal for a laptop that comes with an Nvidia GTX 10 Series card, but it suffers from short battery run times and it feels cheap.

8. Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-5762 15.6-inch

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-5762 15.6-inch laptop
If you are willing to save up a little bit extra for the best gaming experience possible the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-5762 15.6 is one of our top gaming laptops under $600. It features a modern NVIDIA GeForce MX150 dedicated graphics card and an Intel i5-8250U coupled with 8GB of RAM which will run most heavy tasks with ease.

The dedicated MX150 is Nvidias latest generation budget mobile GPU with improved performance over the previous generation 940MX.  Multitasking will also not be much of problem, as the RAM will allow you to run quite a few applications and browser windows at once, though an upgrade to 16GB of RAM is also possible. It comes with a somewhat small SSD, affording you only 256GB of storage, but you can always add an additional SSD or HDD if needed.

Although the E15 comes with a Full-HD IPS display, some have noted that it is fairly dim compared to higher end displays. Regardless, you will get decent viewing angles and the matte finish will prevent any potential glare. It has a solid battery life of around 8 hours and 30 minutes,  with Acer even claiming up to 15 hours of battery life, though heavier applications and games will drain its battery life a lot faster. The NVIDIA GeForce MX150 is by no means a beast compared to higher end cards, and most modern AAA titles will struggle somewhat, but lowering the graphics will afford you some playability even on next-gen titles.

Both the keyboard and trackpad have been given a thumbs up from most who own this machine. There was a lot of critical commentary delivered on quality control, with many users receiving defective machines. While this may be only a select few reviewers, it is always worth mentioning to make sure you are eligible for a free return. If you are looking for a budget gaming laptop with a powerful graphics card and rock solid battery life at a great price, the E 15 E5-576G-5762 is one of a kind recommendation.

Pros

  • Good Intel i5-8250U CPU
  • Decent 8GB of RAM
  • SSD
  • Full-HD Display
  • Price

Cons

  • Dim screen
  • Potential quality control issues
  • Limited storage capacity

Specs

  • 15.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels (IPS)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 15 hours battery life
  • 5.27 lbs

Summary

The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-5762 15.6-inch laptop is well priced and comes with a good CPU and fast SSD, but the storage capacity is fairly limited, and the matte Full- HD screen may not be for everyone.

9. Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-53V6 15.6-inch

Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-53V6 15.6-inch laptop

Another Acer Aspire laptop, the Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-53V6 is also a GeForce MX150 powered budget gaming option and one of the latest in Acer’s Aspire range in 2018, also featuring an 8th generation Intel processor.

Full specs included a 1.60Ghz Intel Core i5-8250U CPU, 8GB of DDR4 RAM and a 256GB SSD hard drive. The biggest update versus the E 15 models is that the A515 is almost a full pound lighter, making it a better option for anyone who finds themselve on the move more often than not.

As with the E 15, the addition of a backlit keyboard is a nice touch for such a bargain machine, and users also reported a relatively good battery life.

At only 4.4lbs, the design is lightweight enough to be carried around as a school or work laptop, though don’t expect it to be as thin as the latest ultrabooks.

The GeForce MX150, while doing an honorable job for it’s price, will still struggle with newer titles making this laptop idea for playing slightly older games or less graphically intensive games.

For around $200 more, the performance increase is quite significant, so if you are eyeing out newer titles it may be worth spending a bit of extra time to add to your savings.

Pros

  • Great specs for the price
  • Backlit keyboard
  • Sleek design
  • Decent battery life off load
  • More portable compared to previous Acer Aspire models with MX150

Cons

  • Dim screen
  • Average touchpad
  • MX150 will still struggle with the latest games

Specs

  • 15.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 7 hours battery life
  • 4.4 lbs

Summary

The Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-53V6 offers a GeForce MX150 perfect budget gamers at a good price without making very many compromises along the way.

10. Acer Aspire E5-575G-562T 15.6-inch

Acer Aspire E5-575G-562T 15.6-inch laptop
To further their lead in the budget friendly gaming market, Acer have released the Acer Aspire E5-575G-562T. Unlike the other Acer laptops in this guide, this laptop features a much more powerful NVIDIA graphics card, which will allow you to play those newer games on higher settings.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M might be from the previous generation of NVIDIA GPUs, but don’t let this fool you, it is still capable of running some of the best games from 2017 on medium to high settings. While it might feature an older GPU, the same can’t be said about its new seventh generation Intel Core i5-7200U processor. You also get 8GB of DDR4 RAM which offers better performance than the older DDR3 RAM used by older laptops.

Acer have even gone as far as to fit the Acer Aspire E5-575G-562T with both a superfast M.2 SSD and a slower 1TB 5400rpm storage drive which can be used for storage. Though the SSD only offers 128GB of storage space, making it less than ideal for installing your favorite games onto it. The Acer Aspire E5-575G-562T also features a Full-HD display, however some users have mentioned that if you view the display slightly off center the picture will rapidly fade, which is common for TN displays. T

here has also been mention of a flimsy trackpad, though if you are gaming then we hope that you are using a good mouse. Despite, this laptops minor issues, it is still a great gaming laptop for the budget conscious gamer.

Pros

  • Dedicated NVIDIA GTX GPU
  • Seventh generation i5 CPU
  • Both SSD and 1TB mechanical drive
  • USB Type-C port

Cons

  • TN display
  • Poor viewing angles
  • Tiny SSD

Specs

  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M 2GB GDDR5 [View Framerates]
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM
  • 1000GB 5400 RPM HDD / 128GB SSD
  • 15.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels (TN)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 12 hours battery life
  • 5.27 lbs

Summary

The Acer Aspire E5-575G-562T offers great performance for its attractive price and while the display does not offer the best viewing angles it should not put you off this laptop.

Budget Gaming Laptops Under $500 – Honorable Mentions

HP pavilion 17 1BQ14UA 17.3-inch

HP pavilion 17 1BQ14UA laptop
The HP pavilion 17 1BQ14UA 17.3-inch sports a large 17.3-inch display that seems to be what has drawn most to this laptop. The large Brightview glossy display is said to be good overall, and it is 1600 X 900, which unfortunately means it is not Full-HD as with most modern (pricier) laptops.

It comes with a dual-core Intel i5-7200U, which is a good CPU, and 8GB of DDR4 RAM. This paves the way for a comfortable user experience, but the slower 5400RPM hard drive means slower load times on programs and boot times will be longer than laptops that come with an SSD. Storage space won’t be much of an issue however, since the HDD has 1TB of space. The Intel HD Graphics 620 handles some newer games fairly well on lower settings, such as GTA 5 and Overwatch (check this video out).

The HP pavilion 17 1BQ14UA 17.3-inch has not received much criticism about its touchpad or keyboard, but one user did point out that the there is no light indicating when the Numpad is on, and their is no light indicating that the laptop is on, which one usually finds on the actual power button. The battery life of around 5 hours is average, so you will need to be near an outlet if you plan on using your laptop away from home. The speakers are also positioned at the bottom of the laptop, which is said to dull down the overall audio quality.

Pros

  • Fast processor
  • Plenty of storage space
  • Large display
  • Decent amount of RAM

Cons

  • Dull audio
  • No numpad or power LED light
  • Slower 5400rpm hard drive

Specs

  • 17.3 inch, 1600 x 900 pixels
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 15 hours battery life
  • 5.84 lbs

Summary

The large display and fast processor are strong points of the HP pavilion 17 1BQ14UA 17.3-inch, making this laptop a decent choice for gamers on a lower budget prepared to play games on lower settings.

ASUS VivoBook F510UA-AH51 15.6-inch

ASUS VivoBook F510UA-AH51 15.6-inch laptop
ASUS’s budget-conscious 2017 Vivobook F510UA-AH51 15.6-inch is a truly capable machine for the price and suited to casual gamers looking to play some modern titles on low settings. It is snappy and responsive thanks to its 8th Generation i5-8250U 1.6GHz CPU and 8GB of RAM, allowing your applications to run comfortably without making the laptop feel sluggish. The design has been improved over to last year’s VivoBook, and it is both lighter and thinner, weighing in at 3.7 pounds, making it highly portable.

The keyboard is said to have quite a bit of flex, taking away from the VivoBook F510UA-AH51’s premium feel. ASUS have fitted the laptop with a 1920 X 1080 IPS NanoEdge display, which has an awesome 80 percent screen-to-body ratio. ASUS have cut some corners with the storage, opting for a slow 1TB 5400RPM HDD as opposed to an SSD. This is going to make applications and boot times rather slow and tedious sadly, but the other hardware does compensate for this.

It has an average battery life of around 5 hours, 30 minutes according to reports, and most reviewers have pointed out that the audio quality is good overall. The Intel UHD 620 graphics won’t win any awards for gaming performance, but it will allow you to run some classic titles well, and even some newer titles on low settings (see this video). It also comes with USB 3.1 with a reversible USB C connector for super fast data transfers. ASUS’s new Vivobook F510UA-AH51 15.6-inch laptop offers a great performance for the price, and its portability and solid construction makes it well suited for business people constantly travelling.

DELL INSPIRON I3567-5664BLK-PUS 15.6-inch

DELL INSPIRON I3567-5664BLK-PUS 15.6-inch laptop
The Dell Inspiron i3567-3919BLK has been said to deliver a stable and consistent performance that is well suited for college, office and home use, as well as light gaming. It’s chassis is strong and durable and it weighs in at 4.85 pounds, meaning it’s highly portable.

It features a large 15.6-inch display that delivers a crisp image, but its resolution is only HD at 1366 x 768, unlike our top pick, the ASUS Chromebook Flip C302CA-DHM4, which features a Full-HD 1080p display. The full-sized keyboard has received a solid thumbs up from most users, but some found that the touchpad is slightly too sensitive. One can, however, change the sensitivity settings in Windows, so we do not necessarily view a sensitive touchpad as a negative aspect.

It’s powered by a 2.4Ghz Intel i3 processor and 8GB of RAM with a slow, but spacious 1TB hard drive. These are hard drives can noticeably slow down the performance of a system, generally leading to slower boot and program loading times, and if you are looking for a laptop with a speedy SSD, we would recommend checking out the popular Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-5762 15.6-inch. The Intel HD 620 graphics chip will allow you to do some low end gaming, with users finding it can even run a demanding title like Subnautica or custom settings.

Games such as Overwatch, Dota 2, CS:GO and LOL should run fairly comfortably if you fiddle with the settings. It has a wide range of ports, including a fast USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports and an HDMI port for you to connect to a larger display. Sadly, its speaker placement is not that great, resulting in poor audio quality.

Pros

  • Price
  • Decent performance
  • Backlit keyboard
  • Plenty storage space

Cons

  • Mediocre screen quality
  • Slow HDD
  • Average battery life

Specs

  • 15.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixels (IPS)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 5 hours battery life
  • 5.07 lbs

Summary

The screen quality is the only real drawback of the Dell Inspiron I3567-5664BLK-PUS 15.6-inch. Otherwise, it delivers a decent performance overall thanks to its solid CPU and RAM.

HP 15-ba043wm 15.6-inch

HP 15-ba043wm 15.6-inch
Ideally, a gaming laptop should feature dedicated graphics, however, this doesn’t mean that you can’t game on a laptop with dedicated graphics. The HP 15-ba043wm features a seventh generation Radeon R5 Bristol Ridge GPU with up to 4.25GB of shared video memory.

Its R5 graphics boasts a GPU clock speed of 800MHz (Boosted) and will allow you to play some of the best classic titles and even some of the Twitch chart toppers such as CS: GO and League of Legends. You will even be able to play GTA V and Battlefield 4 if you don’t mind playing those games on lower settings. If you are more of a browser-based gamer, then you will love the responsive touchscreen that will allow you to play your favorite games without the need of the laptop’s trackpad.

The display offer great visuals and will allow you to enjoy vivid colors while gaming or streaming media. But don’t expect a Full-HD experience, as you will have to make do with a HD 1366 x 768 display. Powering the laptop is a seventh generation Quad-Core AMD A10-9600P processor, 8GB of DDR3L RAM and a large 1TB hard drive.

Though, as with most budget laptops, you will get a slower 5400rpm hard drive. However, seeing as more and more of us are moving over to digital copies of our games it makes sense to remove the DVD drive and replace it with a HDD caddy and a good SDD. This will allow you to reap all the major benefits that an SSD offers for gaming and day-to-day use.

Pros

  • Quad-Core AMD CPU
  • Radeon R5 GPU
  • Responsive touchscreen
  • Large amount of storage

Cons

  • Integrated graphics
  • Slower 5400rpm hard drive
  • Not for serious gamers

Specs

  • 15.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixels (TN)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 5.5 hours battery life
  • 4.73 lbs

Summary

The HP 15-ba043wm is an affordable AMD-based laptop that is great for the browser-based gamer or casual gamer who doesn’t mind playing games on lower settings.

Best Gaming Laptops Under $600 – Honorable Mentions

HP Notebook 15-bs091ms 15.6 Inch

HP Notebook 15-bs091ms laptop
The HP Notebook 15-bs091ms budget laptop is a good choice for those looking for a multimedia laptop that is suitable for both work and play. Its large 15.6-inch display may have a resolution of only 1366 x 768, but it still delivers a decently sharp picture quality.

The viewing angles do suffer somewhat due to it being a lower quality TN panel, however, but it does come with touch screen functionality at least. The case is made of all plastic and feels somewhat cheap, and its look isn’t much to write home about according to some users, but these aesthetics are generally affiliated with budget laptops. Fortunately it is reasonably lightweight, so you can take it along with you without much of hassle.

HP chose to fit a respectable 7th Gen Intel Core i3-7100U 2.4GHz Processor under the hood. Coupled with the 8GB of RAM, basic task handling will be breeze, and even some more demanding applications such as Premiere Pro or Photoshop will run, but Intel’s i5 or i7 is generally much better at this. The Intel HD 620 graphics chip will allow for light gaming, with games such as CS:GO, DOTA 2 and LOL running comfortably.

The large 5400 RPM mechanical hard drive is slow, but with 1TB of storage space you will be able to save tons of movies, music and files. It comes with two USB 3.1 ports and one USB 2.0 port, and it has a moderate battery life of around 6 hours. The keyboard is not backlit, but most have noted that it is comfortable to use at least. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about the touchpad, with many stating a mouse is a must.

Pros

  • Value for the money
  • Decent Processor
  • Good overall system performance
  • Large HDD

Cons

  • Seemingly poor quality control
  • Middling display
  • Low resolution
  • Feels slightly cheap

Specs

  • 15.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixels
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 6 hours battery life
  • 4.85 lbs

Summary

The HP Notebook 15-bs091ms budget laptop is a solid multimedia laptop with a huge hard drive and a solid CPU and RAM combo, but the low resolution display and poor quality control are notable drawbacks.
