Best Acer Aspire Laptops Under $500
Acer Aspire E 15 E5-574G-54Y2 15.6-inch
Acer is known for their high-end Predator range of gaming laptops, but they have also released a few gaming laptops for the budget conscious buyer. The Aspire E 15 E5-574G-54Y2 boasts an ultra low voltage Skylake Intel i5-6200U processor, which is backed by 8GB of DDR3L RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 940M graphics card. The low voltage hardware helps to prolong the battery life and offers lower temperatures under load. The RAM can easily and cheaply be upgraded as there is one slot available. The GeForce 940M is a medium range graphics chip from NVIDIA that will handle most modern titles on low to medium settings while still offering frame rates above 30fps. To further conserve power, the Aspire E 15 E5-574G-54Y2 also boasts Intel HD 520 graphics to run less demanding apps. The 1TB hard drive offers ample storage space, but the lower speed of the 5400rpm mechanical drive does affect its overall performance. The Full-HD display offers average colors, wide viewing angles and a maximum resolution of 1920×1080. With all the power saving hardware, the Aspire E 15 E5-574G-54Y2 will get about 5-6 hours off of a single charge while browsing, but it will drop down to about 2-3 hours while gaming. Its predecessor did not come with an optical drive and critics hoped that the new version would, but Acer has once again opted for no optical drive.

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-573G-52G3 15.6-inch
Aspire E5-573G-52G3 has the most powerful graphics card available in its category and is capable of handling demanding work-related applications and running most modern games at reasonable settings and with good frame rates. However, some users reported issues with a flaky touchpad and too much bloatware requiring a fresh install of Windows as well as an average quality TN display. It features an NVIDIA GeForce 940M dedicated graphics which all out trumps all of the AMD and Integrated chips usually found in most competitors at its price. On the downside, it sports a cheap plastic casing, which seems to be trade-off for its powerful hardware. It includes a 15.6-inch matte screen with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. Despite the high resolution, its TN panel received negative reviews from some buyers for poor image clarity which may be a large drawback for some who might want to up their budget for an IPS display. Powering the E5-573G is an Intel Core i5-5200U processor, which is the latest mid-range Broadwell CPU from Intel along with 8GB of memory and a 1TB HDD. This hardware packs enough punch for everyday tasks and also for rendering most of today’s games at medium settings. Working alongside the 940M is Intel’s HD Graphics 5500 which conserves battery by coming to action while doing regular, less graphics-intensive tasks. The battery life will normally last over 5 hours, but expect it to drop to under 2 hours while gaming. While it is just over $500, we feel that it still qualifies for the sub $500 category.
Pros
- Powerful graphics
- Windows 10
- Full-HD Screen
- Value for money
Cons
- Battery not removable
- No Optical Drive

Acer Aspire R 11 R3-131T-P344 11.6-inch
Chromebooks are a big hit among students and budget shoppers mainly because they’re compact, cheap and come with a battery that lasts all day. The Aspire R11 shares all of these Chromebook-like qualities but instead of Chrome it runs the Windows 10 operating system. It is a bit expensive compared to regular Chromebooks but offers a lot more in terms of usability and performance. It has a responsive 10-point multi-touch display and a unique 360 dual-torque hinge that allows you to effortlessly switch between four different viewing modes – Notebook, Display, Tent and Pad. Windows 10 automatically detects the mode and adjusts the screen layout accordingly. The casing of the laptop feels sophisticated but it’s made mostly of plastic. Its lid and base have a textured finish with rounded corners. While most of its competitors are colored plain black, it comes in an eye-catching blue. The black chiclet keyboard has proper size keys providing a nice tactile feedback. A small downside of the keyboard is that it doesn’t retract in tablet mode like some of the competing 2-in-1 laptops. The R11 has a TN screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Unsurprisingly, the display has narrow viewing angles and a glossy finish which limits using this laptop outdoors or under direct light sources. The Aspire R11 is configured with basic hardware specs including an Intel Pentium N3700 Quad-Core processor combined with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. It has enough power for basic tasks like Internet browsing and office applications but it won’t be sufficient for modern day gaming.
Pros
- 2-in-1 design
- comfortable keyboard
- long battery life
- upgradeable memory and storage
Cons
- narrow viewing angles
- not suitable for running demanding applications.
Specs
- Intel Pentium N3700 1.6GHz [View Benchmarks]

Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black Edition VN7-792G-79LX 17.3-inch
Acer is no stranger to the laptop market and they are back with another hefty contender in the gaming scene. The V17 Nitro is a fierce competitor in the fight for gaming superiority with its blazing fast Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM, 1TB of storage and discrete NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M graphics. The large size display and crystal clear audio make for an immersive high fidelity gaming experience but at the detriment of battery life and portability. Unfortunately, the V17 suffers in the battery department, with the battery lasting only half of the advertised time. While you expect shorter battery life from a gaming computer, falling in at only half the advertised time is definitely a low point for this laptop. All in all if portability is not an issue then this machine should definitely be considered.
Pros
- Full HD LED-backlit IPS display
- Generous amount of storage
- Fast processor
- Quiet when not gaming
Cons
- Difficult to upgrade
- Battery life less than advertised
- Some noise when gaming
Specs

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-574G-52QU 15.6-inch
The Acer Aspire E5-574G-52QU is another powerful budget Acer laptop featuring an NVIDIA GeForce 940M. It features a slick white design reminiscent of a more expensive Macbook with a relatively thin and lightweight frame to boot. It’s 6th generation Intel Core i5-6200U Skylake processor brings the latest generation of CPU architecture along support for DDR4 RAM, although only 8GB of DDR3 RAM is included along with a 1TB HDD. Users reported cool and quiet operating and an above average battery life of 4-5 hours under medium load. For ultimate performance power users recommend purchasing an additional RAM stick to fill its available slot as well as an SSD hard drive, after which the E5-574G-52QU will happily compete with many laptops twice its price with superior graphics performance to boot.
Pros
- Full-HD Screen
- Powerful processor and graphics

Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-792G-75RU 17.3-inch
Acer is no stranger to the laptop market and they are back with another hefty contender in the budget gaming scene. The V Nitro VN7-792G-75RU is a fierce competitor in the fight for gaming superiority and sports a Skylake Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M. The 1TB mechanical hard drive offers ample storage space, but lacks read/write speeds due to it being a 5400rpm drive. The GTX 960M will run most modern titles on medium to high settings while still offering high frame rates. The Full-HD IPS display offers wide viewing angles, rich colors and a maximum resolution of 1920×1080. The V Nitro VN7-792G-75RU is an upgraded version of the Black Edition and features DDR4 RAM, a Blu-Ray burner and USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 3). But some of the shortcomings of the Black Edition still remain, such as loud fan noise levels when under load, the less than advertised battery life and the slow 5400rpm hard drive.
Pros
- Skylake processor
- Blu-Ray burner
- USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 3)
Cons
- 5400rpm hard drive

- Fan noise under load

Acer Aspire R7-372T-758Q 13.3-inch
The Acer Aspire R7-372T-758Q is a sleek 2-in-1 touchscreen laptop that can be used as a traditional laptop or it can be transformed into an elegant 13-inch tablet. Sporting a powerful Skylake Dual-Core i7-6500U processor which is backed by 8GB of DDR3L RAM, it has more than enough power to handle day-to-day tasks. A 256GB solid state drive offers lighting fast data transfer and allows for fast booting and app launching. The integrated Intel HD 520 graphics will run all the apps for daily use, but it is not a gaming GPU. It can be used for casual gaming and it will run titles such as CS Go and Diablo 3 on low to medium graphics while still offering acceptable frame rates. The main attraction of this laptop is that it can be used as a traditional laptop and in a matter of seconds it can transform into a tablet by flipping the entire display around to allow it to run in tablet mode. The trackpad is weirdly situated right at the edge of the laptop, making it slightly awkward to use, but it is very responsive. The Full-HD IPS display offers great viewing angles, rich colors and relatively good brightness levels. The touchscreen is very responsive, but when set to the maximum resolution of 1920×1080, the smaller display will take some getting used to as the icons and fonts will be relatively small. The IPS display is a fingerprint magnet and will annoy some users who will make full use of the touchscreen display. Critics have also noted that it has been loaded up with a large amount of bloatware, so expect to spend some time removing all of it if you would rather use the native Windows apps and services. While it is full with bloatware, it does come with Windows 10 Pro which allows for more in depth customisation of Windows and unlocks all of the Windows 10 features.
Pros
- Solid state drive
- Battery life
- Full-HD display
- Windows 10 Pro
Cons
- Unconventional hinge design
- Fingerprint magnet
- Shared video memory
Specs
- Intel Core i7-6500U 2.5GHz [View Benchmarks]

Best Acer Gaming Laptops
Acer Predator 17 X GX-791-73FH 17.3-inch
The Predator range of laptops are among the top gaming laptops on the market today. With aggressive gaming looks and extremely powerful hardware, the Predator 17 X GX-791-73FH is designed for the hardcore gamer on the go. While many high-end gaming laptops use the mobile NVIDIA GTX GPUs, the Predator 17 X GX-791-73FH features a desktop grade GTX 980 that offers better performance than its mobile counterpart. While it may be a desktop GPU, it has been modified to allow it to be more power efficient and this has somewhat nerfed its potential performance. While it is not a deal breaker, this does mean that you can expect slightly lower frame rates compared to the same card in a desktop PC. However you will easily and effortlessly be able to enjoy your favorite games such as Overwatch, Battlefield 1 and The Witcher on ultra settings. Powering this behemoth of a laptop is a Skylake-based Intel Core i7-6820HK unlocked processor and a massive 32GB of DDR4 2133MHz of RAM. The processor has an unlocked multiplier and can easily be overclocked, which gives it a massive advantage of the standard i7-6700HQ that is commonly found in most high-end gaming laptops. Despite its effective cooling system, you should proceed with caution when overclocking your CPU. All your storage needs are taken care of by the 1TB 7200rpm mechanical drive and the superfast 512GB solid state drive configured in RAID 0. The SSD will allow you to easily install most of your games, but with the size of newer games you can consider replacing the SATA drive with a 1TB SSD to ensure that all of your games run at peak performance.
Pros
- Unlocked i7 processor
- Desktop grade graphics
- Brilliant IPS display
- 32GB of RAM
- Good port selection
Cons
- Muddy sound
- Price
- Heavy and bulky
- Battery life

Acer Predator 15 G9-591-70VM 15.6-inch
Gaming laptop manufacturers are getting pretty aggressive with their designs in an attempt to outdo their competition and Acer has dealt its hand with the Predator series. The Acer Predator 15 has a mean look and hardware to live up to its name. The Predator 15 features a powerful Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz processor, 16GB of the new DDR4 RAM, a 128GB SSD for super-fast boot up and load times as well as a 1TB HDD for storage. The FHD IPS display is bright and crystal clear with a wide viewing angle which is perfect for gaming. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M GPU handles most new games with relative ease on medium to high settings, however may struggle when settings like Anti-Aliasing or Anisotropic Filtering are turned on. The battery life, as is typical of most gaming laptops, lasts a meagre 3 hours and to accommodate the cooling system the chassis is fairly thick and heavy compared to some of its rivals. The Predator looks great and performs just as well and should definitely be considered as your next gaming rig.

Acer Chromebook C910-C37P 15.6-inch
Chromebooks have become popular among users who love the simplicity of the Chrome OS and do not mind running Google only applications. The Acer C910-C37P is a 15.6-inch Chromebook that offers a sleek microweave pattern on the outer surface which helps to prevent finger prints. The hardware is powerful for Chrome OS and sports an Intel Celeron Dual Core 3205U processor, which is backed by 4GB of DDR3L RAM and integrated Intel HD graphics. As it is in no way a gaming laptop and cannot run any Windows apps at all, the Intel HD graphics that come with the Celeron processor are more than sufficient at running day-to-day tasks on the Chromebook. The storage device is small in comparison to standard laptops, but for Chrome OS the 32GB solid state drive is sufficient. An external hard drive can be attached via USB and a full size SD card can be inserted to expand the storage of the Chromebook. Being a 15.6-inch Chromebook, it is slightly larger than most of the competing Chromebooks, but it does have a Full-HD display with IPS. This gives the Acer C910-C37P rich colors, wide viewing angles and a maximum resolution of 1920×1080. The larger display means a better work and multimedia experience, but it also means a bit more weight compared to its competitors. The battery life is exceptionally good and although the hardware will not win any awards, it’s still fast and snappy while running most of the Chrome apps.
Pros
- 1920x1080 IPS Display
- Great battery life
- Blazing fast solid state drive
Cons
- Bulky design
- low storage space
- Poor integrated graphics

Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571-362Q 15.6-inch
The Chromebook 15 CB5-571-362Q is the new and improved big brother of the Acer Chromebook 13 with a relatively unique 15-inch display usually not found on competing Chromebooks. It features an attractive all-white casing with a microweave pattern on the outer surfaces. Larger screen means larger dimensions, leading to a total weight of nearly 5 pounds, which means it’s not as travel friendly as other Chromebooks. Despite a larger size, it uses the same keyboard as on its 13-inch Keyboards. The extra space near the ends of the keyboard is used by two high quality stereo speakers. In terms of connectivity it includes a USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port, a full-sized HDMI-out port, and an SD card slot. Despite its larger display, the battery life is excellent, running over 7 hours in half brightness with video streaming on. You will easily get the advertised 9 hours with light use. Its Intel Core i3-5005U processor offers a significant performance jump over its Celeron equipped competitors. It even beats the recently released Chromebook powered by the much hyped Tegra K-1 processor. The 4GB of memory is the most you will get on any Chromebook, and it’s adequate for all Google applications. If you save up some more, you can get more a powerful Windows laptop, but it won’t offer the same quality display and the same lengthy battery life. If you are a daily traveller who wants something for typing on the go, you’re probably better off with an 11-inch Chromebook. However, if you watch lots of movies at home and edit photos at work, the more powerful 15-inch Acer Chromebook 15 is without a doubt a top choice as an all-purpose home or office cloud PC.
Pros
- Full-HD screen
- Fast processor
- Clear and loud audio
- Long battery life
- Comfortable keyboard
Cons
- The white chassis shows up dirt
- Not as portable as other Chromebooks
Specs
- Intel Core i3-5005U 2GHz [View Benchmarks]
