When the time comes to purchase a new laptop, you are probably already looking at ways you can save money on your purchase. I understand that completely, as I do it, too. With so many different laptops out there that are so affordable, it can be tempting to go with one of those instead of something that would be considered more high end. For many people, they will do just fine.
However, I’m here to tell you that even if you are a more basic user, I’m betting you will be happier with a high end laptop. Sure in some ways it may be overkill for what you really need, but in the end it isn’t just about raw performance and what it can do. A lot of your satisfaction will come from what you can perceive it will do, even if you don’t take advantage of it.
Today, let’s take a look at eight reasons you should consider purchasing a high-end laptop instead of one of the budget models that are so readily available today. While you always have to take into consideration your budget, after you read this list I’m confident you will see why saving and spending a little more for one of the high end laptops could be a much better option for you in the end.
Reasons to Go High End
Let’s get right to it, shall we? Below you will find the reasons I believe everyone should consider a high end laptop regardless how they use it.
1. They Are Cool
First, let’s get the simplest one out of the way. The high end laptops look cool. I know that should be important should it? However, we all want our laptop to look good, and we want it to be made with high quality materials. High end laptops are often made with higher end metals and use less plastic in their design. At the same time laptop makers add many cool design features to these beasts to really make them look cool. So, if you want a laptop that looks good and one that is made from high quality materials that can withstand life’s daily usage, then a high end laptop is the way to go. If you go with a cheap laptop, you will get something covered in plastic and there won’t be any guarantee that it will hold up past that first drop.
2. Faster Processors
Speed is key these days. Even if you are a basic user that only uses their laptop for office tasks, you still want it to be fast. Unfortunately, one of the areas manufacturers skimp on when getting that price down is the processor. Cheap laptops often come with low end processors that just aren’t up to the task of some things you may want to do on your laptop. This means that you will feel like your laptop is running slow, when it really just doesn’t have the processor you really want. High end laptops, on the other hand, come with some of the latest and fastest processors on the market today. This translates into a much faster experience that you will love whether you are gaming or just typing in word. In the end, no matter what you do, you will be glad you have that speed.
3. Graphics Galore
If you are looking into a low end laptop, chances are you aren’t too worried about the graphics options on the device. This could be a mistake, however. High end laptops come with dedicated graphics cards. These cards can be used for so much more than basic tasks. Low end laptops use the onboard graphics chips that just don’t quite cut it when you want to game. Sure, you may not be a gamer now, but will it stay that way? Maybe, maybe not. The point is wouldn’t it be nice to have the option if you decide to play a game? I know I think it would. Just think about it. You may not want to game right now and you may not even be a gamer, but what happens if a game is released that you do want to try? Your low end laptop won’t be able to play it, so you will be out of luck, unless you opt for a high end laptop. That gives you the freedom to make use of the graphics and play games later if you decide that it is something that you want to try.
4. Improved Screens
Now, in my opinion, manufacturers should always try to use high quality screens on laptops. But, I’m not in control of the world. The fact is that right now laptop makers often use lower quality screens in their cheap laptops as a way of keeping costs down. This translates into poorer viewing angles, lower resolutions, and sometimes even dimmer screens. Now just because you buy a cheap laptop doesn’t mean you don’t need a high quality screen. High end screens are great for both work and play, but if you go with a low end laptop, you may be giving up on something that you could really use. High end laptops come with the best quality screens on the market, and that will translate into a better experience for you whether you are using your laptop for work or for play.
5. Increased Features
Because high end laptops come with more, that means there are more features for you to take advantage of while you use your laptop. Now, you may think that you don’t really need that media card reader or those extra USB ports just won’t be useful. Maybe you don’t worry about security so a fingerprint reader seems like overkill. While you may be able to give some of that up, do you really want to? Who is to say you won’t be able to take advantage of that in the future? Maybe you will want to add an extra layer of security to your laptop or maybe you buy a new camera and need that media card reader? The point is freedom. High end laptops give you the freedom you need and the increased features you may want some day.
6. Better Upgradeability
I have to admit that this one isn’t for everyone. However, if you want to make sure you get the most out of your laptop and if you want to make sure you can keep it for as long as possible, chances are you are going to want to upgrade it at some point. Now, upgrade options on laptops are limited, but low end laptops it’s even worse. You see, many of these laptops lack the slots to expand the laptop and some even have the RAM soldered onto the motherboards. That means you can’t add memory, period. High end laptops, though, usually come with extra memory slots that aren’t being used and some even have extra room in them to add things like a DVD drive or a second hard drive. This gives you many more options to enhance the laptop later to get a little more out of it before you must retire it for good.
7. Better Storage Options
Storage is key on a laptop, especially if you have a long of media such as music and movies. Low end laptops often come with a standard hard drive these days. Sure for most people it is more than enough. However, if you want to ever be able to expand, you are going to want something more. If I were you, I would go with a high end laptop. They often come with faster, larger hard drives and some of them even come with SSD and regular hard drives as well. This gives you two drives at your disposal and much more room to do what you want to do and store all of your important files and, of course, your media library as well.
8. They Last Longer
Finally, high end laptops last longer than the cheap laptops. This is especially true if you only use your laptop for basic tasks. Because these laptops have much better hardware inside them, they will age much better than a cheap laptop that uses lower end technology such as slower processors and hard drives. Also because of the design, the materials are much better in a high end laptop. This means that the case will last longer as well, so you don’t have to worry as much about breaking something after years of use. If you want your laptop to last a long time, then you are better off buying a high end laptop. It will last you longer both inside and out so you can much more life out of your laptop before you have to start shopping for a new one.
Conclusion
As you can see, there are many great reasons out there to buy a high end laptop even if you don’t consider yourself a high end use. In fact, I often wonder why anyone chooses the cheap laptops in the end. Sure they are more expensive, but if you can save for a cheap laptop, maybe you can save a little more for a high end laptop? That is what I would do. Actually, it is what I do. I always make sure to keep a high end laptop on hand so I can have all the features that I want to use whenever I may need them.
